i'm in need of some career advice. I am currently a Research Analyst on the Investment Research team at a Fund of Funds. I am putting together applications for MBA programs and am wondering what my attainable options will be for internships within Asset Management during the MBA program as well as after I graduate.
Through my time at my current role, I've developed a strong interest in the analysis of and behavior of the equity markets. I would like to pursue this interest further through exploring buyside equity research opportunities. I've heard that buyside opportunities are really difficult to get even at top-MBA programs so I wanted to reach out and see what insight this community had to offer.
Is moving from my current role to equity research a relatively attainable goal if i get into a top MBA program or am I kidding myself to think I have a chance? I do not have my CFA but was thinking of signing up for the level 1 test in June to hopefully be able to include it in my resume when going through MBA recruitment next fall.
i would really appreciate some honest feedback - no matter how harsh. I would also really appreciate it if anyone had some insight into other possible career paths within asset management post my current fund of funds role that may be a more reasonable route to take.
