I am currently in my first year at the University of Ottawa. Obviously not a target school. However, some of the 3d and 4th year students have been able to land positions in IB and Sales/Trading for their Co-op positions. However, these students are part of our school's Capital Markets Mentorship Program. It accepts 10 second year finance/accounting students every year and gives them experience and training with industry professionals. These students also manage the student managed fund as analysts and portfolio managers.
If you want to take a look at the programs website just google: Telfer Capital Markets Mentorship Program
The program was designed to help us stand out from the students of target schools. But I am not sure if its enough.
What should I do,
- Transfer to any target school after second year
- Stay and hopefully get accepted into the program
